Stratech Teams with US Government Agency to bring about Paradigm Shift in Maritime Security

• Reaffirms technology leadership by inking another agreement to commercialise the next generation secure Vessel Identification and Positioning System

• Stratech to integrate its proprietary Vessel Image Processing System (VIPS®) and deliver the world’s first vessel classification and identification technology capable of automated validation and enforcement of International Maritime Organization (“IMO”) Automated Identification System (“AIS”) compliance

• Vast market potential given that there are about 2800 ports in the world with more than 300 ports in the US alone

Singapore, May 14th, 2007Stratech Systems Limited ("Stratech") reaffirmed its technology leadership by inking another agreement with a US Government Agency to commercialise the next generation secure Vessel Identification and Positioning System. The agreement calls for Stratech to integrate its state-of-the-art Vessel Image Processing System (VIPS®) to enhance port security through real-time situation awareness.

Powered by Stratech’s intelligent Vision technologies capable of automated vessel classification and identification, this collaboration will bring about a paradigm shift in vessel traffic management and maritime security.

The product will be the world’s first automated validation and enforcement system for International Maritime Organization (“IMO”) Automated Identification System (“AIS”) compliance. Currently, IMO mandates that all vessels which require pre-clearance with gross tonnage of 300 or greater, have an overall length of 20 meters, or carry more than 50 passengers be equipped with AIS transponders for identification. The enhanced system will be able to automatically:

  • Validate AIS reported key parameters (such as type of vessel, vessel length, width, height, position, etc),
  • Validate the identity of the vessel against the AIS information broadcast,
  • Detect the absence or non-operation of AIS transponders on vessels that are mandated to be equipped with AIS transponders and, even,
  • Identify vessels that are currently not mandated to have AIS transponders.

  • The system will also deliver vessel trajectory prediction capabilities so as to provide early warning of abnormal behavior and the possible collision of vessels.

“This strategic alliance will bring about a paradigm shift in Maritime Security as it addresses the critical issue of vessel identification through real-time validation. I am confident that the success of this partnership will propel Stratech into the vast Maritime Homeland Security market given that there are about 2800 ports in the world with more than 300 in the US alone*.” said Executive Chairman and CEO David K.M. Chew.
